Biggest Surprise
Tottenham 0–1 Chelsea
The biggest surprise of Matchday 10 was the London derby. The surprising part in this scoreline was not that Chelsea won against their London rivals, but just how utterly lifeless and toothless Tottenham looked at home. After a solid start to the season, Spurs came into the game with a slump in form with 2 wins out of 7 in all competitions. And that dip in form continued as they delivered one of their flattest performances in recent memory, barely managing an xG of 0.1 and offering absolutely nothing going forward. The breakthrough for Chelsea came in the 34th minute when Caicedo pressed Micky van de Ven off the ball high up the pitch and quickly slipped it to Joao Pedro, who finished calmly to seal the deal. From there, Spurs looked out of ideas, their crowd growing restless as frustration turned into boos at both halves. And although Chelsea themselves underperformed their xG, it was still a statement win for the Blues and a sobering reality check for Tottenham, whose early-season spark suddenly looks to be fading fast.
Best Team Performance
Brighton 3–0 Leeds
Brighton’s 3-0 win over Leeds was as complete a performance as you will see all season, a display of control, confidence, and clinical finishing that made them the standout side of the week. Fabian Hürzeler’s team were in charge from the first whistle, moving the ball with purpose and pressing with precision. The Danny Welbeck renaissance continued, he opened the scoring with a sharp volley after a slick team move, but it was Diego Gómez who stole the show in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession to kill the game off. What made this win special was not just the goals but the balance, as Brighton attacked with intent yet never lost their defensive structure, limiting Leeds to scraps and finally claiming their first clean sheet of the campaign.
Player of the Matchday
Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)
Moises Caicedo completely owned the London derby. From the first whistle he was a nightmare for Tottenham, constantly closing down space, making recoveries, interceptions and tackles, and winning every second ball like this was the World Cup final. The decisive moment summed him up perfectly, pure instinct and hunger, as he pounced on Micky van de Ven’s hesitation, stole possession, and immediately fed Joao Pedro for the only goal of the game. The performance of a player who made the entire match bend to his will.
Honorable mentions - Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham), Declan Rice (Arsenal) & Granit Xhaka (Sunderland)
Moment of the Matchday
Amad Diallo's late volley to equalise against Nottingham Forest
Watch Amad's stunning volley here
The standout moment of the matchday belonged to Amad Diallo, whose breathtaking equaliser against Nottingham Forest made sure Manchester United continued their recent undefeated streak of 3 matches. With the Red Devils trailing by 1 goal and time running out, Amad fired in rocket off a loose clearance on the edge of the box that sliced through a sea of defenders before flying into the bottom corner. A moment of instinct and precision that rescued his side a point. He couldn't have asked for a better first goal of the campaign.
